During Hollywood’s heyday, celebrities made The Knickerbocker, the place to be. Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio had there honeymoon there, Elvis Presley always booked room 1016 and Rudolph Valentino loved to sit by the fireplace in the bar area. Harry Houdini’s wife also frequented the hotel, not for vacation, but rather to have séances on the building’s roof. Houdini himself was obsessed with occult and told his wife to contact him if he died so each Halloween she would attempt to do so from the roof. There are lots of stories of ghosts including Valentino and Marilyn Monroe. In Elvis’s room, guests say that the room is always colder than the rest of the hotel, even in the summer.
